The Walking Dead is an American post-apocalyptic horror television series developed for television by Frank Darabont. It is based on the ongoing comic book series, The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.
The series stars Andrew Lincoln as Sheriff's Deputy Rick Grimes who wakes up after being in a coma to find the world inhabited by zombies. He then sets out to find his family and other survivors along the way.
The series has been well received and has received many award nominations, including a Writers Guild of America Award nomination and a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series Drama. The series has also attained strong Nielsen ratings, beating various records for a cable series, including receiving 9 million viewers for its season two finale to become the most-watched basic cable drama telecast in history.
The third season of this hit TV series will feature 16 episodes (8 will air until December and the rest in early Spring 2013).
Carl Grimes played by Chandler Riggs.
Carl is the son of Rick and Lori. He flees his small town with his mother, Lori, and Shane to Atlanta after the zombie apocalypse. He is a kind boy — inquisitive and intelligent — but quiet, struggling in this new world and still trying to come to terms with the fact that he may never see his father again. He has bonded a great deal with Shane, his father's best friend, who always takes time to talk with him, teach him things, and make him feel like he still has a father figure. Carl worships his father and believes, as only a child can, that Rick is indestructible and that blind faith in his father helps provide comfort to Lori, who isn't as confident that Rick will return to them. Carl's closest friend is Sophia, Carol's daughter, as well as the Morales children, all of whom he regularly plays with, helping to keep him in a child's world as much as possible. However, he is frequently confronted with the realities of his harsh new world when he witnesses shocking violence and has to say goodbye to even more people he cares about. In Season 2, Carl is accidentally shot while looking at a deer and nearly dies from his wound. Rick rushes Carl to a nearby farm, owned by a man named Herschel, who uses his veterinarian skills to extract the bullet. Carl eventually recovers after a long and tense recuperation. In the mid-season 2 finale, Shane tries to give Carl a gun, an effort made by Shane to bond with him (after learning of Lori's pregnancy with what he believes is his child), but a furious Lori stops Carl from accepting it.
Spoilers regarding Carl:
During season 3, Carl will become a productive member of the group that his father Rick, played by Andrew Lincoln, is trying to keep alive. Mazzara said “We’re interested in exploring Carl as a child soldier in this war against the walkers. He becomes a very, very effective, strong part of the group. He’s no longer the young child who needs to be cared for and who needs to be minded. That Carl is gone.
Chandler Riggs hinted at a potential flirtation between 13-year-old Carl and Herschel’s 17-year-old daughter, Beth.
